Painting with Light

David Gilliver is a "finance worker by day, and light painter by night". I came across him whilst in Guernsey last weekend. When I first looked at his pictures, I assumed they were edited in post. But the lighting effects you see here are achieved by long exposure times on the camera, combined with a variety of light sources. He paints the shape he wants with the light and the camera remembers each trail. They normally take between 3-10 minutes each, with his longest taking 30 minutes.

This technique was used in the Christmas 24 shoot! The light streams that decorate the scenes were created in a similar fashion, the difference being a lot of different photos were taken then put together, whereas this is done in one take.

Enjoy!
